LLMs + #RStats are a powerful combo. I wrote a little post about using R to curate GitHub data and {ellmer} to program with LLMs to automate one of my least favorite tasks: remembering what I did this week. www.garrickadenbuie.com/blog/llm-wor…

bookdown

sam (@mehr.nz; 1/1/0; 2025-01-29): oh ok, yea in this context the issue is access control (handbook contains confidential information). one could spin up a quarto, rmd, bookdown etc website and use some other tool to access-control it, I suppose

Hu Chuan-Peng (@hcp4715.bsky.social; 0/0/0; 2025-01-29): Maybe bookdown? I remember it has the option to control access, though I only used the “access to all” option.

knitr

tj mahr 🍍🍕 (@tjmahr.com; 20/4/4; 2025-01-30): i’ve never advertised it but i have an rstudio plugin that will run knitr on a selection of text in your current session to preview what the text looks like with inlined results github.com/tjmahr/WrapRmd

Now that #CRAN generates DOIs for packages, is there anything to include this info in the output of citation() or something like knitr::write_bib()?

We Are R-Ladies (@weare.rladies.org; 3/0/1; 2025-01-29): Another cool extension i like to use is #quarto live developed by @gws.phd

# to install
> quarto add r-wasm/quarto-live

# create a new quarto doc & add the template in the YAML header

engine: knitr

Crystal Lewis (@cghlewis.bsky.social; 58/1/4; 2025-01-26): Still being able to find and access data from a project you worked on over 2 years ago – Amazing.

Being able to recreate all clean data files from the raw files without fail – Priceless.

Thank you organized file processes, thorough documentation, and reproducible #rstats scripts. 🙌

Matt Worthington (@mrworthington.bsky.social; 45/4/11; 2025-01-25): As a follow-up, I thought I’d show folks the kind of templated report I was able to build with typst after just a day of learning how to leverage it in Quarto.

Thanks to everyone mentioned below! Feeling super inspired to make more stuff, including maybe a #quartopub extension!

Yes, I have them write computer code by hand. I’ve always done this, because it’s just good pedagogy. It also creates incentives not to become overly dependent on LLMs. Oh and I quiz every single week :)
